Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Labor & Delivery position in an acute care Women's Center, requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and active certifications including NRP and ACLS.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting within a Women's Center department
• Labor & Delivery unit with 5 L&D beds and 10 postpartum beds, averaging approximately 430 births per year
• Nurses care for both laboring and postpartum patients, as well as pediatric and Med Surg patients (including hysterectomy, mastectomy, and cosmetic surgery) with potential overflow Med Surg assignments
• Earliest gestational age delivered is 32 weeks
• Staffing follows AWHONN ratios
• RNs may titrate insulin (laboring patients), Magnesium, and Pitocin; drips are programmed via IV pumps
• C-sections are performed in the OR (one floor below the unit); RNs are not required to circulate, but do provide newborn care in the PACU and perform fundal checks on mothers post-op
• GE Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system used on the unit; telemetry also available on the unit
• Charting via MEDITECH
• Night shift schedule: three 12-hour shifts (7p–7a), Friday and Saturday weekends
• Every third weekend required
• Floating to Med Surg units on a rotation basis
• On-call/standby varies with census and is assigned on a rotation

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NRP, and PALS
• Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
• Prior hands-on experience with both laboring and postpartum patients required
• MEDITECH EMR experience preferred
• No previous permanent employment with Hancock Health within the last 6 months

Additional Information

• A charge nurse is present on every shift and takes a patient assignment; an in-house nursing supervisor is available 24/7
• One PCT on night shift, responsible for blood glucose monitoring
• A Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) is in house 24/7; in-house OB coverage is variable
• CRNA coverage is in house 24/7 and is dedicated to OB patients only
• Respiratory Therapy (RT) attends all C-section deliveries and administers treatments; bubble CPAP is available on the unit
• One week of orientation provided
• Holiday availability is preferred for travelers
• Scrub color requirement: navy blue or royal blue for RNs
• Some self-scheduling is involved; shift leads oversee the overall schedule
