Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Details

• Mixed 39-bed ICU encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
• Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
• Heavy trauma population with a preference for candidates who have cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op), though not required
• Patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3, depending on acuity
• Charting systems: Epic (required), Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter), and Omnicell
• 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week standard with a 48-hour per week option available
• Every other weekend rotation
• No on-call requirements
• Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Med/Surg or Tele, at a 1:4 ratio, when overstaffed
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD license or Compact RN license accepted
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
• Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel experience); candidates with 1.5 years ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered
• At least one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
• Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry monitoring
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
• Must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, and robust physician coverage (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights plus an APP on nights)
• Orientation consists of a hospital orientation session, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU
• Navy scrubs required
• Free parking available on-site
• No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August annually)
• Up to 7 days of time off may be approved, provided the full 13-week contract can still be completed
• Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
• Candidates with experience outside the ICU specialty (e.g., ED or PCU) are encouraged to highlight that experience when applying
