Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Adult ICU position at a Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and Level 1 trauma background.

Details

  • Adult ICU setting within an acute care, Level 1 Trauma hospital — unit encompasses SICU, MICU, and Trauma ICU across 120 total beds (40 beds per pod)
  • MICU patient population includes sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, RotaProne therapy, heat stroke, and overdose — most patients are intubated
  • SICU patient population includes post-operative vented patients, lung/liver/kidney transplants, severe back surgeries, and Whipple procedures
  • TICU patient population includes all trauma patients: MVAs, GSWs, closed head injuries, orthopedic trauma, and similar presentations
  • Bedside procedures performed include bronchoscopies, tracheostomies, and hemodialysis catheter placements
  • RNs are required to titrate drips; common titratable and set-rate drips are used
  • RNs must read and interpret their own cardiac monitor strips
  • Ventilator equipment in use includes Cervo I, Jets, and Oscillators
  • Intensivist and RT are both in-house 24/7
  • Charting is performed in Cerner
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Self-scheduling is available with scheduler's right to rebalance
  • 3 weekend shifts required every 4 weeks
  • Travelers are required to float among all ICU areas as well as Med/Surg and Telemetry units, and may also float to a second campus location

Requirements

  • Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma experience is required
  • Experience in a 600+ bed academic teaching facility is required
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation — candidates have 2 attempts
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Valid driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • On Day 1 of orientation, RNs must pass a pass/fail SIMs Lab skills assessment covering sterile Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses have been dismissed for breaking sterile field during this assessment
  • Orientation also includes education on lifts, restraints, and wound care
  • Candidates must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven (required for fit testing)
  • Candidates must personally own and operate a vehicle
  • Holiday coverage is worked in with core staff rotation
  • Navy scrubs are required
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility — driver's license is used to verify permanent address
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • First-time travelers are not mentioned as eligible — a strong ICU background is expected
