Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring at least 1 year of ICU experience and AHA-certified BLS/ACLS, with night shift scheduling and every-other-weekend requirements.
Details
- Work in a combined MICU/PCU environment within an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib
- Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1 for cooling/CRRT/high acuity patients, 2:1 for ventilated patients, 3:1 for mixed ICU/PCU patients, and up to 4:1 for PCU/general med/transfer status patients
- Unit averages approximately 3 ventilated patients per day
- Special procedures include CRRT, HD, A-line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, and chest tube placement
- Special equipment includes cooling machines, Bair Huggers, massive transfusion protocol, and CRRT
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to other ICU and Med-Surg units on a rotational basis as census fluctuates; typical Med-Surg ratios are 1:5–7
Requirements
- Active MI RN license required; pending MI license considered with a concrete ETA and proof of application at time of submission
- Current AHA-certified BLS and ACLS required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent ICU experience required
- Proficiency with cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management, including multi-system organ failure
- Experience with IV insulin protocols, GI surgery care, and chronic/acute renal failure including CVVHD/CRRT
- IV therapy skills required: arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care/management, PICC line management, and IV insertion
- Medication management skills required: continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, procedural sedation, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Neurological experience required: CVA/acute stroke management
- Respiratory skills required: BiPAP/CPAP management, ventilator management, HFNC, ABG interpretation, ETT/NT suctioning, and care of ventilated patients
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; all RTO requests must be submitted prior to offer acceptance and are subject to manager approval
- Agency RNs rotate floating duties to Med-Surg units alongside staff MICU RNs
- ICU physicians may retain patients in the ICU regardless of acuity level at their discretion, which may affect patient groupings
