Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a mixed ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and TNCC certification for 12-hour night shifts.

Details

  • Mixed ICU setting divided into pods, encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU — 39 beds total
  • Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases with diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
  • Heavy trauma population with a strong cardiac component; CABG/TAVR post-op experience (24–48 hrs) is preferred but not required
  • Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3
  • Charting is done in Epic (required); Alaris pumps currently in use (transitioning to Baxter); Omnicell for medication dispensing
  • 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation is the target
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Requirements

  • Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience, is strongly preferred; candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry monitoring
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT is strongly preferred
  • At least one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and ICU CRNs for midline placement
  • Physician coverage includes 3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights, plus an APP on nights
  • Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU
  • Travelers must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
  • Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning to the facility as a traveler
  • No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, with the requirement that the full 13-week contract is fulfilled
  • May occasionally be expected to precept nursing students
  • Required scrub color: navy
