Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU travel assignment in Austin, TX, requiring prior cardiac experience and proficiency with advanced cardiac devices.
Details
- 14-bed CVICU unit within a dedicated heart hospital
- Day shift schedule, 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- 13-week contract
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on patient acuity
- High-acuity cardiovascular patient population averaging 13–15 open heart surgeries per week
- Common procedures include CABG/valve open heart surgeries, ECMO cannulation, IABP, Impella management, and dialysis
- Equipment used includes CRRT, Tablo, IABP, Impella, LVAD, ECMO (VA and VV), RVAD/Centrimag
- EMR: Meditech
- Rotating weekend requirement (4 days per 4-week schedule period)
- No on-call responsibilities
Requirements
- Active RN license in TX or a compact state currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU or cardiac ICU experience required
- Previous cardiac experience is required; candidates without it will not be considered
- Device experience required; preferred in the following order: ECMO, RVAD/LVAD, Impella, IABP, CRRT/Dialysis
- Open heart recovery experience preferred
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- One professional reference required (candidates from Florida or Missouri must provide two references)
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; no local candidates will be considered
- Responsibilities include managing high-acuity post-cardiac surgery patients and operating advanced cardiac support devices
- Unit staffs 5–9 RNs plus a charge nurse per shift, with a total of 48 direct reports
- Candidates must be self-directed and comfortable with independent problem-solving in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
- Team culture emphasizes strong teamwork, peer accountability, and compassionate care
- Navy blue scrubs required
