Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU travel assignment in Austin, TX, requiring prior cardiac experience and proficiency with advanced cardiac devices.

Details

• 14-bed CVICU unit within a dedicated heart hospital
• Day shift schedule, 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• 13-week contract
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on patient acuity
• High-acuity cardiovascular patient population averaging 13–15 open heart surgeries per week
• Common procedures include CABG/valve open heart surgeries, ECMO cannulation, IABP, Impella management, and dialysis
• Equipment used includes CRRT, Tablo, IABP, Impella, LVAD, ECMO (VA and VV), RVAD/Centrimag
• EMR: Meditech
• Rotating weekend requirement (4 days per 4-week schedule period)
• No on-call responsibilities

Requirements

• Active RN license in TX or a compact state currently in hand
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
• NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU or cardiac ICU experience required
• Previous cardiac experience is required; candidates without it will not be considered
• Device experience required; preferred in the following order: ECMO, RVAD/LVAD, Impella, IABP, CRRT/Dialysis
• Open heart recovery experience preferred
• US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
• One professional reference required (candidates from Florida or Missouri must provide two references)
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; no local candidates will be considered
• Responsibilities include managing high-acuity post-cardiac surgery patients and operating advanced cardiac support devices
• Unit staffs 5–9 RNs plus a charge nurse per shift, with a total of 48 direct reports
• Candidates must be self-directed and comfortable with independent problem-solving in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
