Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Multi Care Unit (MCU/ICU) night shift position requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience, dysrhythmia competency, and an active AZ or Compact RN license

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting in a 10-bed Multi Care Unit (MCU) that manages all three acuity levels within a single unit — ICU, PCU, and Med/Surg Telemetry (MST)
  • Patient population includes medical ICU cases such as sepsis, suicide attempt, drug/alcohol withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID, DKA, and post-op complications; PCU patients receive non-titratable infusions for hemodynamic management
  • Patient ratios vary by acuity: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, MST 1:5–6; if no nurse aide is available, RN takes 1:3 with primary care responsibilities
  • RNs are required to titrate drips; common drips include sedation, vasopressors, and insulin
  • RT supports ventilator, BiPAP, and CPAP management on the unit
  • Telemetry is present on the unit; remote monitor techs cover PCU and MST patients; ICU patients are monitored by bedside cardiac monitor
  • RNs are required to perform 12-lead EKGs
  • Charting is done in Cerner
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Every other weekend required (Friday and Saturday for night shift)
  • Holiday rotation is required to distribute holidays fairly
  • Staff rotate standby turns when census is low
  • Travelers are first to float; floating may include the EC MST and Pediatric unit (for adult MST assignments), and the West Campus ICU/PCU to maintain competency — two-hour notice given before floating
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; candidates with 1 year ICU and 1 year PCU/Med-Surg at a larger facility with strong skills may be considered
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) with a score of 80% or higher within two attempts prior to contract confirmation
  • Experience with titratable drips (sedation, vasopressors, insulin) required
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past 12 months; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Valid driver's license required

Additional Information

  • The unit is an acuity-adaptable MCU that admits ICU, PCU, and MST patients — care is provided within one unit without floating between acuity levels internally (except as noted for standby floating)
  • Charge RN manages 50 inpatient beds across MST, Pediatrics, and the MCU
  • Nurse aides cover 10–15 patients; when no aide is available, RNs provide primary care for PCU and MST patients
  • Candidates will complete a pass/fail sterile technique assessment (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) on the first day of orientation
  • Any RN who fails the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or sterile technique test on the second attempt will be ineligible for CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento-region positions for 6 months
  • Orientation consists of hospital orientation followed by unit-specific orientation (12 hours total)
  • Profile review and manager interview are required as part of the selection process
  • Scrubs may be any color except camouflage
