Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level II Trauma facility in Illinois, requiring Epic EMR experience and a minimum of 2 years of surgical nursing experience.

Details

  • Inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry unit (3rd floor) in an acute care hospital setting
  • 48-bed unit spread across two buildings

  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4–6 on days and 1:5–6 on nights; LPNs, virtual admission/discharge nurses, and CNAs are available to support the team
  • Primary care nursing model is frequently used — candidates must be comfortable with this model
  • RNs are required to interpret their own telemetry strips; a tele monitor tech is also present on the unit; Draeger monitors used
  • Heparin drips titrated per protocol; PCA pumps and occasional epidurals are used on the unit
  • CPAP (home units) and Airvo may be present; BiPAP patients may remain on the unit; RT manages respiratory equipment
  • Epic EMR is used; the facility is undergoing an Epic conversion in Q2 2026

  • Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday, both shifts)
  • Holiday rotation shared with core staff
  • No on-call or standby requirements
  • Floating to like units only; if floated to a higher-acuity unit, the RN would serve in a helper capacity without a patient load
  • Schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling is not guaranteed

Requirements

  • Active Illinois (IL) RN license required
  • Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; surgical nursing experience required

  • Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift on the hired shift and unit; the first day runs 12–14 hours to complete competencies, computer-based modules, and general orientation
  • Day shift charge nurse is typically facility staff and takes a smaller assignment; night shift charge may be a house supervisor who also assists with the floor
  • CNAs are available but may be pulled for sitter duties, particularly on night shift
  • Black scrubs required
  • Candidates should be prepared to start quickly — the unit requests Quick Start Ready clinicians
  • Local candidates are accepted for this position

Quincy, IL

About

Quincy is steeped in a rich history, revealed in its more than 3,600 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. The magnificent East End downtown is where movers and shakers lived during the 19th century, while the architecture in the South Side German Historic District sports an evident German influence. Perched atop bluffs along the Mississippi River in western Illinois, only the water separated it from the former slave state of Missouri on the other side. In the 1830s, Quincy was an essential link in the Underground Railroad and a pivotal city on the issue of slavery. Learn more at the History Museum on the Square, set within a Romanesque-Revival-style building that once served as the Quincy Public Library. At the riverfront Clat Adams Bicentennial Park, locals and visitors enjoy a series of outdoor concerts and 4th of July fireworks each summer.
