Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro PCU position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring Epic proficiency and ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications.
Details
- Work in a Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a 703-bed acute care Magnet-designated teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center
- Adult neurological patient population including neurosurgical recovery, stroke management, neuro-specific diagnoses, and medical overflow
- Unit includes 5 dedicated beds for continuous 24-hour epilepsy monitoring
- Patient ratio of 1:4–5; candidates should be comfortable with a 1:5 ratio
- Night shift schedule: 3x12, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- Floating required to units within the traveler's clinical skillset
- Epic EMR experience required
- One holiday required per 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active Virginia state or Compact RN license required; pending licensure accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management, Rapid Response, and Code team participation
- Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Experience with medication administration and cardiac drips (non-titrating)
- Respiratory support experience including nasal cannula, O2 administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Experience with isolation precautions
- Two professional references required for consideration
- PDF copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

- Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center affiliated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center with 24/7 neurointerventional coverage
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted; radius rule criteria applies
- All time-off (RTO) requests must be submitted at the time of application
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
