Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in an ADTU unit, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.
Details
- Works in the Adult Direct Transition Unit (ADTU), a 12-bed Med/Tele overflow area supporting all inpatient units and ED holding
- Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, chest pain workup, stroke symptoms, and respiratory issues
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6, with surge ratios up to 1:7–8
- CNA coverage at a ratio of 1:6–12
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating is required to all units within scope at the facility, as well as to other facilities within the assigned region — candidates unwilling to float to regional facilities should not apply
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficient in general Med/Tele skills including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
- Experience managing medication infusions including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Care for Med/Tele overflow patients from inpatient units and the ED, with testing prioritized in the ADTU
- Unit support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team (11 AM–7 PM and 11 PM–7 AM), resource nurse (as staffing allows), respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist coverage
- Orientation consists of a general new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scheduling runs on a 6-week cycle
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
- Scrub color: Navy
- Parking is free
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
- Candidates must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Former permanent employees of any Advocate Health Southeast facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- The facility has no trauma designation and is not a teaching hospital; it is designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
