Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a Clinical Decision unit at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center facility in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.

- 24-bed Clinical Decision unit within a 241-licensed-bed Level 3 Trauma and Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital
- Patient population includes various diagnoses: cardiac, respiratory, neuro, and other general medical/surgical conditions in a fast-paced observation setting
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 (day and night), with potential surge ratios up to 1:7-8; CNA support at 1:12
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs and scope of practice — candidates who are not agreeable to this floating requirement should not apply
- EMR: Epic — minimum 6 months of experience required
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; patient monitoring: Masimo in all rooms
- Telemetry monitoring performed remotely with a Tele tech
- Low census call is possible; RNs may be called off for an entire day or placed on call up until 0300 or 1500
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Epic EMR experience required (minimum 6 months)
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone)
- General Med/Surg skillset including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV starts, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
Additional Information
- Provide Med/Tele nursing care to a diverse patient population including cardiac, respiratory, and neurological cases
- Unit support includes CNAs, charge nurse (may carry a patient assignment), phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), on-site hospitalist (day shift) with virtual coverage evenings/overnight, and 24/7 intensivist coverage
- No Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) on the unit
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
- A clinical interview is required for this position
- Navy scrubs required
