Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele/Ortho position requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.

Details

  • Work in a 207-licensed-bed hospital that is a designated Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center (non-trauma, non-teaching)
  • Assigned to the Med/Surg Tele/Ortho unit, with home unit determined on the first day of orientation
  • Patient population includes general medical overflow and surgical patients such as total joint replacements (knees, hips, shoulders), spinal surgeries (laminectomies, discectomies, fusions), and other orthopedic procedures
  • RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6, with surge ratios of 1:7–8
  • CNA support ratio is 1:6–12
  • General Med/Tele skills utilized include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, PCA pump management, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley)
  • Medication drip management includes cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Ortho-specific skills required include orthopedic experience and spinal precautions
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); IV Pump: Alaris; Med Dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Philips
  • 12-hour day shifts starting at 6:45 AM, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating is required to all facilities within scope across the assigned region — candidates who are not agreeable to multi-facility floating should not apply
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of assigned holidays

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Orthopedic nursing experience required for ortho unit assignment, including knowledge of spinal precautions
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Departmental support includes CNAs, HUC/Receptionist, Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy, IV/VAT Team (11a–7p and 11p–7a), Resource Nurse (as staffing allows), RT (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist coverage
  • Orientation includes facility-level (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Floating is required across all units within scope at the facility as well as to other facilities within the assigned region as needed
  • RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
  • Schedules are set on a 6-week cycle
  • Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
  • First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
