Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery/Postpartum position in Glendale, CA, requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and an active CA RN license.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with a combined Labor & Delivery and Postpartum unit
- L&D unit includes 10 beds, 2 ORs, and 2 triage beds; Postpartum unit includes 18 beds
- Approximately 130 births per month; unit delivers patients as early as 23 weeks gestation
- Patient population includes antepartum, hypertensive disorders, and some high-risk cases with perinatology support; known cardiac anomalies are typically transferred out
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 approaching delivery, 1:2 otherwise in L&D, and 1:4 couplets in Postpartum
- C-section experience required, including scrub, recovery, and circulating roles
- Obix fetal monitoring system in use
- EMR: Cerner
- 12-hour night shifts (7p start); shift options also include 7a and 11a starts
- Every other weekend (4 shifts per 4-week period) required
- First to float; L&D may float to Postpartum, but units do not typically work interchangeably
- Floating to NICU is only applicable for nurses with a feeder/grower background
- No on-call requirement
- Scrub techs available in L&D; no nurse aides or OB techs in Postpartum
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
- Charge nurse role is shared between L&D and Postpartum
Requirements
- Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact/NLC) required; pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications (all must be active; pending not accepted): BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
- C-section experience required, including scrub, recovery, and circulating
- Travel nursing experience preferred
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
Additional Information
- Care responsibilities span both Labor & Delivery and Postpartum, though nurses are primarily assigned to one unit
- Orientation consists of 3 unit-specific shifts (12-hour orientation total)
- Holiday coverage required: 1 major holiday (Christmas, Thanksgiving, or New Year's) and 1 minor holiday
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by a CommonSpirit or affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity Health) within the past year are not eligible; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
