Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position at a hospital in Rapid City, SD, requiring PICU experience including drip titration and care for mechanically ventilated patients.
Details
- 15-bed Pediatric Unit and 5-bed PICU within a hospital setting
- Nurses will rotate through both General Pediatrics and the Advanced Care Pediatrics (PICU) units
- General Pediatrics cares for patients ages 0–18 and stable adult overflow, with diagnoses including respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, cellulitis, hyperbilirubinemia, neglect/abuse, mental health, trauma, neurology, and general surgeries (ENT, GI, urological, orthopedic, neurosurgery)
- Advanced Care Pediatrics (PICU) serves patients ages 0–18 requiring critical or intensive care, including those with acute/chronic respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious disease with organ dysfunction, endocrine/metabolic disorders, neurologic disease, toxic ingestions, trauma, and hematologic/oncologic disease
- Patient ratios: General Pediatrics 1:5 RN; Advanced Care Pediatrics 1:1–2 RN
- 12-hour variable shifts, 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Holiday coverage required for all holidays
- May be placed on low census/on-call
- Floating to the NICU (30-bed, feeder/grower, 1:3 ratio) may be required
- Epic and Omnicell are used for charting and medication management
Requirements
- Active RN license issued by or valid in South Dakota (SD license or Compact RN license) required
- Current certifications required: BLS, PALS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1.5 years of general nursing experience required
- PICU experience required, including ability to titrate drips and care for mechanically ventilated patients
- Proficiency with Epic charting system required
- Physical assessment skills across ages 0–adult required
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include physical assessment of patients ages 0–adult, evaluating symptoms and vital signs, administering medications, and educating patients and families on plan of care
- Unit support includes CNAs (1:5 ratio), a free-floating charge nurse covering both units, a Nurse Clinician/Nurse Educator, Case Management, Social Work, Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist with Pediatric APP support, Pediatric Pharmacy, and Pediatric Social Work
- RNs are responsible for drawing their own labs and starting their own IVs; ultrasound is available for difficult IV access
- Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation (online and in-person) followed by 2 days of unit orientation with a preceptor
- Time off requests must be pre-approved
- Scrub color: Navy
- Free parking available in an on-site parking garage
- First-time travelers are considered if they have more than 2 years of experience
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
