Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Labor & Delivery position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and Epic proficiency, with exposure to high-acuity obstetric patients.

Details

  • Level 3 NICU-affiliated Labor & Delivery unit with 10 L&D beds, 4 OB ED/triage beds, and 4 antepartum rooms
  • High-acuity patient population including high-risk pregnancies, preeclampsia, preterm labor, antepartum, OB triage/ED, postpartum, and couplet care
  • Patient ratios: Antepartum 1:3 | Inactive Labor 1:2 | Active Labor 1:1 | Postpartum/Couplet Care 1:3 couplets
  • Skills performed include IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, magnesium sulfate administration, blood administration, insulin administration, C-section circulation, and C-section recovery care
  • Charting system: Epic (experience strongly preferred; manager approval required if not present)
  • 12-hour variable shifts (0630/1830), with both days and nights required throughout the contract
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Holiday coverage required as needed
  • 13-week contract, 48 hours per week

Requirements

  • Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
  • Required certifications: BLS and NRP
  • Preferred certifications: ACLS, inpatient obstetrics, electronic fetal monitoring, or inpatient antepartum
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required, preferably in a Level 3 or higher L&D unit (affiliated with a Level 3+ NICU)
  • Epic charting experience strongly preferred; manager approval required if absent
  • Demonstrated competency managing high-acuity labor patients including preeclampsia, preterm labor/delivery, and management of patients under 35 weeks gestation
  • Level 2 nursery baby experience highly preferred
  • Must be comfortable providing postpartum/couplet care
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program required
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • This facility is the only Level 3 NICU within a 350-mile radius, serving patients with a wide range of risk factors and complications
  • Orientation consists of 4 days with a preceptor — 3 days in L&D and 1 day in postpartum
  • Unit support includes a Unit Secretary, Scrub Tech, Charge Nurse, VAT team, Respiratory Therapy (24/7), OB Physician team, and Anesthesia/CRNA
  • Travelers will be required to work postpartum/couplet care shifts throughout the contract
  • Cobalt blue scrubs required; provided by the facility
  • Free parking is available on-site
