Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Telemetry position at a 5-time Magnet-designated, Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring strong ventilator experience and a MO or compact RN license in hand.

Details

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a 456-bed tertiary care, Level 1 Trauma, 5-time Magnet-designated teaching hospital
  • High-acuity pulmonary stepdown patient population including ventilated trach patients, COPD, pulmonary valve placement, and respiratory therapy patients
  • Standard patient ratio is 1:4; on rare occasions, ratio may flex to 1:6
  • Specialized procedures include endobronchial valves and ventilator management
  • Cardiac monitoring responsibilities include dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and telemetry unit monitoring
  • Respiratory skills utilized include ventilated patient care, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
  • IV therapy responsibilities include port access, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, and starting peripheral IVs
  • Additional clinical skills include heparin protocols, cardiac drip management and titration, PCA, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, and CVA/TBI care
  • Charting is done in Epic
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
  • 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period, with shifts falling on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday
  • Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required
  • No on-call required
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active MO state RN license or compact RN license (both Kansas and Missouri licenses must be in hand at time of consideration, as floating between facilities may be required)
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/telemetry specialty experience required
  • At least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months, with no gap in employment greater than 90 days in the past year
  • Strong ventilator experience required
  • Experience with cardiac telemetry, MS/Tele, and cardiac monitoring settings required
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • 2 professional references required: one must be supervisor-level or above, and the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year
  • SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Navy scrubs required
  • Parking is free
  • Pre-employment online modules are required as part of compliance (approximately 10–15 hours total) and must be completed prior to start
  • RTO is capped at 7 days for the duration of the contract
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Travel partners are not accepted for this position
