Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Progressive Care Unit night shift position requiring at least 2 years of recent specialty experience and both Missouri and Kansas RN licenses in hand.
Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting
- Primary patient population includes post-surgical patients from bariatric, urology, hepatobiliary, colorectal, surgical oncology, and trauma specialties
- Common procedures and cases include TURP/TURBT with CBI, Whipple, liver resection, colon resection, ostomy creation/takedown, and necrotizing soft tissue infections requiring serial debridement
- Patients frequently present with multiple drains (foley, JP, IR drain, NG tube, chest tube, G-tube, J-tube, GJ-tube) and Wound Vacs
- Post-operative pain management includes epidural, PCA, ketamine drip, and lidocaine infusion
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period, on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination
- Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required
- No on-call requirements
- Block scheduling is not available
Requirements
- Active RN license in both Missouri (or Compact) and Kansas — both must be in hand prior to consideration; inability or unwillingness to float across state lines may result in cancellation
- Pending licenses are accepted
- Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/specialty experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
- Required skills: MS/Tele, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response/code team participation, feeding tube care, CBI, peripheral line and PICC line management, IV insertion and maintenance, epidural analgesia, PCA management, surgical drain care, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), isolation precautions/PPE, and wound care/wound vac
- 2 professional references required: one must be supervisor-level or above, the second may be a charge RN — both must have worked with the candidate within the past year
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
- Travel partners are not accepted for this assignment
- RTO is capped at 7 days for the duration of the contract
- Online compliance modules are required as part of onboarding and are completed annually thereafter
- 13-week contract minimum; candidates interested in a longer assignment are encouraged to indicate that preference
