Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5-2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Details

  • Mixed ICU environment divided into pods, encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU across 39 beds
  • Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
  • Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma — heavy trauma population
  • Cardiac experience preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR with 24-48 hours post-op experience
  • Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or occasionally 1:3
  • Charting via Epic (required); also uses Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell
  • 12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
  • Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio, when overstaffed
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active RN license in South Dakota or a Compact state currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)
  • Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience
  • Candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) and significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
  • Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
  • Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers will not be considered — a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
  • Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
  • Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
  • Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift in the ICU
  • Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, respiratory therapy available 24/7, and physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP on nights
  • Travelers will not be assigned fresh open-heart patients unless they have the relevant experience and facility approval
  • Travelers floated to the ED must have ED RN experience; those floating to the ICU from PCU must have PCU RN experience
  • May be expected to precept nursing students
  • Navy scrubs required
  • No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
