Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Operating Room position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Springfield, IL, requiring a minimum of 3 years of OR experience and an active IL RN license.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care, Magnet-designated hospital with a Level I Trauma Center
- Large OR department with 23 rooms covering multiple service lines (excludes CV)
- Schedule is 4x10-hour day shifts, 6:45 AM – 5:15 PM
- One weekend shift required per month
- On-call required approximately once per week
- Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required
- Charting is done in Cerner (experience preferred)
- Required case experience spans General Surgery, Trauma, Orthopedics, Neurology, Urology, Plastics, Bariatrics, and Transplant (organ donation)
- Required General Surgery cases: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic-assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy (partial/total), Whipple
- Required Trauma cases: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, MVA (multiple injuries)
- Required Orthopedic cases: Arthroscopy, Carpal tunnel release, Closed and open reduction of fractures
- Required Neurology cases: Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
- Required Urology cases: Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy
- Required Plastics case: Free Flap – Microvascular
- Required Bariatric case: Laparoscopic-assisted cases
- Required Transplant experience: Organ donation
- Required equipment experience: Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana tables
- Required professional skills: Administration of blood products, Infection control, Radiation Safety, Specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time Out), Urinary bladder catheterization
- Preferred skills include Gynecology cases, Da Vinci Xi Surgical System, Mazor Robot, Laser Safety, ALIF, Total joint replacement, and Ortho/Spine
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required; must be in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 3 years of OR nursing experience required
- Level I Trauma Center experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted)
- CNOR preferred
- General OR and Trauma experience required across the case types listed
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- Candidates must reside 50 or more miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Scrubs are provided for this role
- Free parking is available with a permit obtained during orientation
- Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO may be approved; any additional RTO requires facility manager approval
- Any previous permanent or PRN employee of the Memorial Hospital System must have been away for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Travel pairs are not accepted
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
- Floating to an affiliate hospital nearby is a possibility and required of all travelers
