Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring EVD experience and strong neuro assessment skills in a 32-bed critical care unit.
Details
- Neuro ICU at a Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital, part of the world's largest neurological disease treatment and research institution
- 32-bed Neuro ICU with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Patient population includes critically ill patients with neurological diagnoses; common procedures include craniotomies, brain tumor removal and ablations, brain biopsies, complicated spine surgeries, and scoliosis repair
- Charting system: Cerner
- Philips monitors used for telemetry; ventilator management required
- RT and pharmacy support available 24/7
- 12-hour day shifts (7a–7p)
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
- Holiday coverage rotates with core staff
- Travelers are first to float; floating required between all ICU floors and Tele units, with a 4:1 patient ratio on Tele
- Standby placement on scheduled shifts is possible
- 13-week assignment
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; candidates with at least 18 months of Neuro ICU experience may be considered
- Experience in a large hospital (450+ beds) required
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- 3–6 months of travel nursing experience required
- EVD (external ventricular drain) experience required
- Strong neuro assessment skills and ICP monitoring experience required
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked — must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to neurological patients, including post-craniotomy, brain tumor, spine surgery, and other complex neuro diagnoses
- Charge nurse is available and does not take a patient assignment
- Scrub color: steel grey required for Neuro floors
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit
- Candidates must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer confirmation; two attempts are allowed — failure of both results in ineligibility for CommonSpirit AZ facilities for 6 months
- A pass/fail SIMs Lab is required on Day 1 of orientation, covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses have been terminated during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field
- An additional pass/fail exam is administered on Day 1 of orientation
- Orientation also includes educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
- Natural hair color required; facial piercings are not permitted
- Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Personal vehicle required
