Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification for a 12-hour day shift position in Rapid City, SD.

Details

• Mixed ICU environment consisting of MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU pods in a 39-bed unit
• Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
• Cardiac experience is preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR post-op (24–48 hrs); fresh open heart cases are generally assigned to permanent staff
• Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or occasionally 1:3 based on acuity
• Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell also in use
• 12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation
• No on-call requirements
• Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg and Telemetry at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD license or compact license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
• Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry monitoring
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
• Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to a high-acuity, mixed ICU patient population across surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma specialties
• Travelers will not float to the CVICU pod unless they have specific CVICU experience
• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and robust physician coverage including 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP
• Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU
• No RTO is permitted during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
• RTO of up to 7 days may be approved; contract extensions may be required to accommodate time-off requests; blocked scheduling is not accommodated
• Navy scrubs required; free parking available on-site
• First-time travelers are not eligible — a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
• Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
• Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning to this health system as a traveler
