Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a mixed ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.
Details
- Mixed ICU unit (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) with 39 beds in a hospital setting
- Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
- Heavy trauma patient volume
- Cardiac experience preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op
- Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3
- EMR: Epic (required); also uses Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell
- 12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation
- No on-call requirements
- Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg and Tele at a 1:4 ratio
Requirements
- Active RN license — SD license or compact license accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel experience) strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered
- At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
- Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry monitoring
- Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
- Must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to a diverse, high-acuity ICU population with a strong trauma focus
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and robust physician coverage (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights plus an APP on nights)
- Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift and one 8-hour shift on the ICU unit, plus hospital orientation
- No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, with an extension required to complete the full 13-week contract
- Navy scrubs required
- Free parking available on-site
- Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
