Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit position requiring Level 1 trauma experience, Cerner proficiency, and night shift availability.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a 48-bed Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit (6N), including 10 epilepsy specialty rooms
- Patient population includes epilepsy monitoring (24-48 hr trend EEGs), brain tumors, subdural hematomas, scoliosis surgeries, TBIs, and other neurological diagnoses
- Primarily med/surg with some telemetry monitoring required
- Patient ratio is 1:4 on both days and nights
- Charge nurse present without a patient assignment; one resource RN available on days and nights; PCT support of 1-2 on days and 1 at night
- BiPAP ventilator support managed by respiratory therapy; RT available 24/7
- IV SWAT RN available for difficult IV access; pharmacy available 24/7
- Hospitalist or intensivist in-house during day shifts
- Charting system: Cerner
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- 4 weekend shifts per 4-week scheduling period; self-scheduling format
- Holiday coverage required based on unit rotation
- Floating may be required to med/surg or telemetry floors
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation; two attempts allowed
- Strong critical thinking, neurological assessment skills, and ability to detect subtle changes in patient condition
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- BSN preferred; Med/Surg or Telemetry certification preferred
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include neurological assessments, cranial nerve assessments (training provided for qualified med/surg/tele RNs), EEG monitoring support, and care of complex neuro patients
- On Day 1 of orientation, nurses must pass a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; failure to maintain sterile field may result in termination
- Orientation also includes educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit
- Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven (for fit testing purposes)
- Scrub color: Grey's Anatomy steel
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Must have personal vehicle for travel to and from work
