Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel assignment at a 562-bed Level I Trauma Magnet hospital in Springfield, IL, requiring a minimum of 3 years OR experience across multiple service lines.
Details
- Large 23-room OR within an acute care, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated hospital in Springfield, IL
- 4x10-hour day shifts, 6:45 AM–5:15 PM
- Works across all surgical service lines except cardiovascular (CV)
- Required surgical case experience spans general surgery, bariatrics, neurology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, transplant/organ donation, urology, and trauma
- Required general surgery cases include appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), laparoscopic procedures, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, and Whipple
- Required neuro cases include cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, and lumbar fusion
- Required orthopedic cases include arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, and open/closed reduction of fractures
- Required trauma cases include amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, and MVA with multiple injuries
- Required equipment experience: electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables
- Charting via Cerner (experience preferred)
- One weekend shift required per month
- On-call required approximately once per week
- Floating within skill set is required — travelers may float within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate facility
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required; candidates actively in the application process for IL licensure will also be considered
- Active BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI AHA cards not accepted)
- CNOR certification preferred
- Minimum 3 years of OR nursing experience required
- Level I trauma center experience required
- General OR and trauma surgical experience required
- Experience with laparoscopic-assisted bariatric cases required
- Experience with microvascular free flap (plastic surgery) and organ donation (transplant) required
- Experience with urology cases including cystoscopy, nephrectomy, and prostatectomy required
- Proficiency in emergency management skills including code response, fire safety, latex allergy protocol, and malignant hyperthermia protocol required
- Proficiency in blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, universal protocol (time out), and urinary bladder catheterization required
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been away for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Travel pairs are not accepted
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- All time-off requests are subject to manager review and approval
- Scrubs are provided for this role
- Free parking is available on-site with a permit obtained during orientation
