Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Oncology/Med-Surg position requiring at least 1.5 years of acute care pediatric experience and chemotherapy/oncology experience, with Epic proficiency required.
Details
- Day shift schedule: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (4x12-hour shifts)
- Every other weekend requirement
- Work setting includes general pediatrics, hematology/oncology, orthopedic, and surgical patients ranging from neonates to adolescents
- Patient ratio of 1:5 (may vary based on census, acuity, and staffing)
- Clinical skills required include IV therapy, phlebotomy, peripheral and central line care, central line blood draws, port management, administration of blood products, TPN/Lipids, and chemotherapy administration
- Additional clinical skills include insulin administration, pediatric dosage calculations, anti-seizure medications, seizure disorder management, oxygen delivery systems, wound assessment/care, urinary catheter insertion and management, renal failure care, and isolation/PPE protocols
- GI and nutrition skills required include breastfeeding support, breast milk handling, and bottle, breast, and gavage feedings
- Epic EMR experience required
- Floating within skillset is required without exception
- Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays per unit needs
- Located within a large quaternary care teaching hospital affiliated with a major NJ health system and Rutgers medical schools
Requirements
- Active NJ or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS and PALS
- Minimum 1.5 years of acute care pediatric nursing experience required
- Chemotherapy/oncology experience required
- Pediatric Med-Surg and oncology work setting experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- Two current professional references required for consideration
- Candidates with open or active background or license hits are not eligible
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care to a diverse pediatric population including hem/onc, orthopedic, and surgical patients
- Navy blue scrubs required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted
- Former RWJBH employees (full-time or PRN) must have been separated from the RWJBH health system for a minimum of 1 year before being eligible for a travel assignment
- RTO and schedule requests must be submitted upfront; no requests will be approved after an offer is made
- The facility reserves the right to call off 1 shift per 2-week period

Staff and management are very friendly. The ratios are pretty good. Sometimes it gets very busy and sometimes transport is put in by someone else before you even have the patient ready to go. They are very flexible with scheduling and their weekend requirements are reasonable.
