Details

  • 18-bed CVICU unit within a Level I Trauma acute care hospital setting
  • Patient population includes post-op open heart, complex thoracic and vascular surgery patients, as well as complex cases from the cath lab, structural heart program, EP lab, ER, and clinic
  • Common diagnoses include advanced cardiac surgeries, lytic cases, carotids, TCAVRs, Fempop, EVARs, and endo AAAs
  • Patients are supported by Impella, IABP, CRRT, and ECMO
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
  • RNs manage all RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow; no dedicated monitor techs — RNs must independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage required every other or as needed based on unit needs
  • No on-call requirement
  • Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
  • A charge nurse is present on each shift; no CNAs on the unit
  • Intensivist and hospitalist are in-house 24/7

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; at least 1 year must be with the CVICU patient population specifically
  • Experience managing advanced hemodynamic support devices (Impella, IABP, CRRT, ECMO) preferred
  • Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac monitor strips
  • Epic EMR experience
  • Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • RNs must pass an open-book, skills-based exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure to pass results in contract termination
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
  • Candidates may not be currently or have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) directly by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year — candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • RTO requests (7 days or fewer per 13-week contract) must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after that point
