Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position in Albany, GA, requiring at least 2 years of stepdown experience and a GA or compact RN license.
Details
- Cardiac stepdown unit (PCU) within an acute care hospital setting
- 44-bed unit with 8 semi-private rooms; average census of 32–38 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with nurse aide support at 1:10
- Patient population includes post-op CABG, cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery (fem-pop, CEA, thoracotomy, VATS, EVAR, AAA repair), stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICDs, CHF, and AFib with RVR
- 4A side focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery; 4B handles smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
- Manages cardiac drips including Cardizem (titrated), amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine (renal dose), Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vasopresol
- Respiratory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen (no full vents)
- Uses Philips telemetry monitoring; nurses are required to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Charting via MEDITECH
- 12-hour day shifts (6:45 AM start)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating to ICU is possible; travelers without ICU experience will be assigned stepdown-level patients only or may be asked to assist with tasks in the ICU
- Hospitalist in-house 24/7; RT and pharmacy available 24/7; PICC team on site
Requirements
- Active GA or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of stepdown (PCU) experience in an acute care setting required — no exceptions
- Cardiac or cardiothoracic stepdown experience strongly preferred
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
- Experience managing cardiac drips required
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility (based on address on driver's license) to be eligible
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Must not have been employed by this facility within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include caring for high-acuity cardiac and post-surgical patients with fast room turnover — expect to discharge and admit 12–16 patients per shift on busy days
- Ability to pull pacer wires is preferred; orientation to the skill will be provided if needed
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
- Must be flexible to work holidays and days surrounding holidays
- Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
- Dress code: natural hair color required; no fake or shellac nails, no facial piercings, no visible tattoos
- Any time-off requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
