Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a MedSurg/Tele/Ortho position requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.
Details
- Work in a MedSurg/Tele/Ortho unit (7 North/South) within a 207-licensed-bed hospital that is a designated Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Home unit assignment is determined on the first day of orientation
- Patient population includes general medical overflow and surgical patients such as total joint replacements (knees, hips, shoulders), spinal surgeries (laminectomies, discectomies, fusions), and other orthopedic procedures
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6, with critical surge ratios up to 1:7–8
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating is required within scope of practice to all facilities within the assigned region, which may include multiple hospital campuses
- EMR: Epic
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Orthopedic experience and familiarity with spinal precautions required for the 7N/S Ortho unit
- Proficiency in general Med/Tele skills including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley catheters, etc.)
- Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
- One professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidate's permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year after working in a permanent position to be eligible
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
- Orientation includes new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental training
- Department support includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team (11 AM–7 PM and 11 PM–7 AM), resource nurse (as staffing allows), respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist coverage
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of non-holiday RTO may be approved; hours must be made up at the end of the contract if contracted hours are not met
