Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Cardiac ICU position requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications with night shift availability in an acute care hospital setting.

Details

  • 16-bed Medical Surgical Cardiac ICU within an acute care hospital
  • Patient population includes young adults through geriatrics with diagnoses such as sepsis, STEMI, COVID, stroke, neurosurgery, renal failure, respiratory failure, COPD, cancer, and DKA
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2 with occasional 1:1 for TPA, balloon pump, or post-craniotomy recovery
  • Specialized equipment includes Gaymar Hypothermia, Arrow Balloon Pump, Camino Neuro Monitoring, CRRT, Impella, EVDs, and lumbar drains
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including sedation, paralytics, pressors, antihypertensives, heparin, and insulin
  • RT equipment ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation; RNs are expected to troubleshoot
  • RNs are required to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holidays covered as needed
  • Floating primarily to PCU but may float to other areas based on abilities
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue

Requirements

  • Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • ICU experience required
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
  • Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify candidate resides at least 50 miles from the facility
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; a driver's license will be used to verify permanent address
  • Candidates who are currently or were recently (within the past year) employed full time, part time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Unit orientation consists of 2 shifts, followed by a pass/fail open-book exam on the Friday of orientation week; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass
  • RTO requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
  • eICU remote monitoring system is in use on this unit
  • Unit culture emphasizes bedside shift report and intentional hourly rounding
  • The community is culturally diverse and includes non-English-speaking patients; candidates should be prepared to provide equitable, patient-centered care across all backgrounds
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
  • Charge nurse is present on each shift and takes an assignment; nursing aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:10 ratio
