Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of PCU experience and a NC or compact RN license.

- 32-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma hospital
- Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designation
- Patient population includes non-mechanically ventilated patients with diagnoses such as CHF, dysrhythmias, chest pain, stroke, respiratory illness, diabetes, AKI/CKD, ETOH withdrawal, and abdominal infections
- Typical RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with the possibility of 1:5 depending on acuity
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Low census call possible; night shift nurses may be called back up to 3:00 AM
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates must be agreeable to this requirement
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- Telemetry monitoring available at bedside and nurses' station
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of PCU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in tracheostomy care, cardiac drip management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube management, blood product administration, wound care/dressing changes, and central line management
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Support staff includes CNAs (ADLs), a daytime receptionist/HUC, charge nurse resources, phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalists (24/7), and intensivists (24/7)
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; time off that results in unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
- Schedules are posted on a 6-week cycle
- Required scrub color: navy
