Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Surgical/Transplant unit specializing in post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients, with stepdown/PCU experience required and night shift availability.
Details
- Hospital-based Surgical/Transplant unit (med/surg and stepdown mix) in Oklahoma City, OK
- Cares for post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients, as well as pre-transplant patients undergoing inpatient evaluation
- Patients require close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication delivery
- Nurses may work either med/surg or stepdown patients depending on staffing and acuity
- Night shift, 12-hour days, 3 days per week (36 hours/week)
- 13-week travel contract
Requirements
- Active RN license (Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or current eNLC compact license) currently in hand
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required; all certifications must be AHA-issued
- Minimum 1 year of acute care surgical floor experience required
- Stepdown/PCU experience required
- Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program required; BSN preferred
- OR (operating room) background will not be accepted — acute care surgical floor experience only
- Transplant experience preferred
- Preceptor and/or charge nurse experience preferred
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Assumes responsibility for an assigned patient group, including medication administration, IV infusion management, and physiological monitoring
- Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and physician order changes
- Collaborates with physicians during patient exams and minor diagnostic procedures
- Communicates care plans and discharge instructions with patients and families
- Delegates tasks to support staff as appropriate
- Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have a 6-month separation period after completing 26 weeks (one contract plus one extension) before being eligible to return
- Compliance deadlines are strictly enforced — travelers must be prepared to begin onboarding immediately upon offer acceptance

The unit I was on was mostly made up of travel nurses, which they seem the hire some of the laziest people I’ve ever met. There is a reason they offer such a high pay rate because this place is horrible.
