Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Telemetry position at a Level I Trauma and Teaching Hospital in New Mexico, requiring telemetry skills and the ability to manage a fast-paced admission unit adjacent to the Emergency Department.
Details
- Night shift position, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30), with 48-hour shifts preferred
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) functioning as an Adult Admission Inpatient Unit (AAU) adjacent to the Emergency Department
- Unit serves as an ED holding area, receiving admitted patients and initiating inpatient standard of care until placement on one of 11 PCU units
- Patient population is diverse and includes all specialties except ICU-level patients
- Unit has 17 beds plus up to 8 hall beds
- Patient ratio is 1:4–5
- Float required to the ED (for admitted patients), ICU (for sub-acute care assignments), and any inpatient PCU area
- Charting is performed in Cerner
- No on-call requirements
- Black scrubs required; not provided by the facility
- Parking is available at no cost
Requirements
- Active NM or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — RQI certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Proficiency in telemetry monitoring, interpretation of dysrhythmias, and management of dysrhythmias required
- Ability to manage a variety of medical equipment and strong time management skills required
- Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- COVID vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with a completed exemption form signed by a provider
Additional Information
- This is a fast-paced unit requiring the ability to handle frequent patient turnover, including both transferring patients out and admitting new patients
- The facility is a Level I Trauma Center, Children's Hospital, and Academic Teaching Hospital with 554 staffed beds
- Relief charge nurse duties may be required as needed
- Block scheduling will be considered
- RTO requests exceeding 7 days require approval; all scheduling requests should be disclosed upfront
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Travelers who have worked 4 consecutive assignments or reached the one-year mark at this facility must take a 6-month break before returning
- 13-week contract (minimum contract length is 10 weeks for new contracts and extensions)
