Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ER Holding (Adult Admission) Unit position at a Level I Trauma and Teaching Hospital in New Mexico, requiring telemetry skills and NM or compact RN licensure.

- Fast-paced Adult Admission Inpatient Unit (AAU) adjacent to the Emergency Department, functioning as an ED holding unit for admitted patients awaiting inpatient placement
- Patient population is diverse, spanning all specialties except ICU-level acuity
- Unit consists of 17 beds with up to 8 additional hall beds
- Patient ratio is 1:4-5
- Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias is required in this role
- Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- 48-hour shift schedules are preferred
- Floating is required — to the ED (admitted patients), ICU (sub-acute care assignments), and inpatient PCU areas
- No on-call required
- Charting is performed in Cerner
- Black scrubs required; not provided by the facility
- Free parking available on-site
Requirements
- Active NM or compact RN license required (pending license accepted)
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — RQI certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and dysrhythmia management skills required
- Ability to manage a variety of medical equipment
- Strong time management skills with ability to handle high patient throughput
- Candidates must live more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
- COVID vaccination required (religious and medical exemptions accepted with a completed exemption form signed by a provider)
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include receiving admitted patients from the ED, initiating inpatient standard of care, and facilitating timely transfers to one of 11 progressive care units (MS, MS/Tele, and PCU acuity mix)
- Relief charge nurse duties may be required on an as-needed basis
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Block scheduling requests will be considered
- RTO exceeding 7 days requires approval
- Travelers who have worked 4 consecutive assignments or reached a 1-year mark at the facility must take a 6-month break before returning
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks in length
- The facility is a Level I Trauma Center, Children's Hospital, and academic teaching hospital with 554 staffed beds
