Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in Alton, IL, requiring at least 1 year of acute care experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• Acute Medical Unit within a 222-bed hospital setting
• Patient population includes acutely ill adults and geriatric patients with general medical, surgical, infectious disease, and non-acute cardiac/telemetry conditions
• Care includes pre- and post-procedure evaluation, neurological assessment, and management of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and TIA patients
• Advanced medication infusion is within scope; titration increases are not permitted, but decrease/weaning is allowed
• Excluded patient conditions include active/unstable GI bleeding, uncontrolled ischemic chest pain with unstable vital signs, continuous NPPV, and specific medications (Tenecteplase/TNK, insulin drip, Neosynephrine, Nipride)
• Unit capacity of 24 beds with an average daily census of 16–18 patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 on nights
• Night shift schedule: 7p–7:30a, 3x12-hour shifts, with both weekday and weekend shifts required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Floating required within service line and scope of practice
• 12-week contract

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required (pending IL license may be accepted — note status when applying)
• Minimum 1 year of acute care RN experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Preferred certification: Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
• EKG rhythm identification skills required
• Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include telemetry monitoring, neurological assessments, management of non-acute cardiac admissions, and pre/post-procedure care
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Navy scrubs required
• Free parking available on-site
• RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
• Travelers may remain at BJC facilities for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required
• Former permanent employees of BJC must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Local candidates (within 75 miles of the facility) are not eligible for this position
