Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a mixed-acuity PCU/Oncology Unit position in Rapid City, SD, requiring Epic proficiency and IMC/PCU-level experience for 12-hour night shifts.
Details
- Work in a 16-bed inpatient Oncology/PCU unit at a hospital in Rapid City, SD
- Mixed-acuity unit encompassing Intermediate Care (IMC), telemetry monitoring, and Med/Surg assignments
- Patient population includes oncology (surgical, new diagnosis, complications), medical overflow, and patients receiving prolonged multi-day chemotherapy infusions
- Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE) patients cared for based on staffing availability
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4 on both day and night shifts
- Unit support includes CNAs (1:8 ratio), 24/7 charge nurse (rarely assigned patients), phlebotomy (peripheral draws only; RN responsible for central line draws), Respiratory Therapy 24/7, Hospitalist coverage, and a Clinical Resource Nurse available all shifts
- Charting and equipment: Epic (required), Alaris infusion pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
- 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required in rotation with other travelers to adult inpatient units including Med/Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, and Observation — always within scope of practice
Requirements
- Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- ONS Chemotherapy Certification preferred (required to hang chemotherapy if certified)
- Minimum 1 year of general nursing experience required
- IMC/PCU-level nursing experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, titration of vasoactive drips, and chest port access required
- Comfort with Med/Surg patient assignments required — candidates who are not agreeable should not apply
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- Date of birth (DOB) and Social Security Number (SSN) required for consideration
Additional Information
- Orientation includes a Monument Health traveler orientation, online education modules, and 2 unit orientation shifts with a qualified preceptor
- Travelers certified through the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) are permitted to administer chemotherapy
- Monthly audits are conducted for pre/post pain scoring; candidates must maintain at least 90% compliance
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Free parking available on-site
- Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 4 major holidays during the contract, unless prior arrangements are agreed upon
- No RTO (time off) requests will be approved during the first 3 weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
- Up to 1.5 weeks of RTO may be approved; a contract extension may be required to fulfill the full 13-week commitment
- First-time travelers are welcome with 1+ year of experience and Epic proficiency
- Former permanent staff must wait a full year before returning as a traveler
- Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
