Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a mixed-acuity Oncology/PCU role in Rapid City, SD, requiring Epic experience and a SD or compact RN license.

Details

• 16-bed inpatient oncology unit with mixed acuity, including Intermediate Care (IMC), telemetry, and Med-Surg assignments
• Patient population includes oncology patients (surgical, new diagnosis, oncology complications), medical overflow, and patients receiving prolonged multi-day chemotherapy infusions
• Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE) patients are cared for based on staffing availability
• Intermediate level of care with telemetry monitoring
• RN patient ratio is 1:4 on both day and night shifts
• 12-hour day shifts
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating to any adult inpatient unit (Med-Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, Observation) within scope of practice and in rotation with other travelers
• EMR: Epic (required); additional equipment includes Alaris infusion pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum of 1 year of general nursing experience required
• IMC/PCU level nursing experience required
• Skills required: cardiac rhythm interpretation, management of titratable vasoactive drips, and proficiency with chest ports
• Comfort and willingness to accept Med-Surg assignments is required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• ONS Chemotherapy Certification is preferred; travelers with ONS chemo cert are permitted to hang chemotherapy
• Unit support includes CNAs (1:8 ratio), 24/7 charge nurse (rarely takes a patient assignment), phlebotomy for peripheral draws (RN responsible for central line draws), Respiratory Therapy 24/7, Hospitalist coverage, and a Clinical Resource Nurse available on all shifts
• Orientation includes a Monument Health traveler orientation, online education modules, and 2 unit orientation shifts with a qualified preceptor
• Holiday coverage is expected for 2 out of 4 major holidays during the contract unless prior arrangements are made
• No RTO will be considered during the first 3 weeks of August due to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
• Monthly audits are conducted for pre/post pain scoring; 90% compliance is required
• Scrub color: Navy blue
• Free parking is available on-site
• First-time travelers are considered if they have more than 1 year of experience and Epic EMR experience
• Permanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning as a traveler
• Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must live more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
