Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology position at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring pediatric acute care experience and strong skills in central line management and chemo administration.

Details

  • Work in a 16-bed Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (PHO) unit and 16-bed Pediatric Adolescent (PA) unit within a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital
  • Patient population includes leukemia, solid tumors, sickle cell crisis, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, behavioral health overlay, and general adolescent medicine
  • Average census of 14–32 patients per day across both units
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5 on the Peds Adolescent Medicine unit; CNA ratio of 1:6–16
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a (1830–0700), 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Floating required between PHO, PA, and other units within Brenner Children's (excluding Peds ED)
  • EMR: Epic; IV Pump: Alaris; Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
  • Bedside telemetry monitoring available; no telemetry technician on unit

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • BLS required; PALS preferred for PA unit placement
  • Minimum 1 year of pediatric hematology/oncology acute care experience for PHO placement
  • Minimum 1 year of pediatric acute care experience for PA placement, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in central line management and chemotherapy administration required
  • Strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking skills required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year required for consideration
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include central line care, chemo administration, pediatric assessment, and bedside telemetry monitoring
  • Department support includes CNAs, Receptionist/HUC, Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy, IV/VAT Team, Resource Nurse (availability varies), RT (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7)
  • Orientation includes a New Employee Orientation (NEO) followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Schedule is set on a 6-week cycle
  • Unit culture is team-oriented, supportive, and family-centered with a strong emphasis on professional growth, education, and safety
  • Scrub color: Royal blue; pediatric-appropriate scrub tops are permitted
  • Free parking is available on-site
  • First-time travelers with a strong pediatric background will be considered
