Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position at a Level II Trauma facility in Bismarck, ND, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and PCU experience with strip reading ability.
Details
- Acute care stepdown unit (Med/Tele/PCU) at a Level II Trauma Center
- 32-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, medical, and PCU-level overflow cases
- Common diagnoses include cardiac cath, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, BiPAP-dependent patients, general surgical with cardiac history, pneumonia, COVID, sepsis, influenza, and acute-on-chronic conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5 on most shifts; occasional 1:5–6 on nights; PCU-level overflow at 1:3
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
- RNs are required to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- RT equipment on the unit includes BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo; RNs are expected to troubleshoot these devices
- Portable telemetry monitors, in-room monitors, and a monitor tech at the nurses' station are available
- Charge nurses are present on both shifts and may occasionally take a light patient load of 2–3 patients
- Nurse aides/patient care techs are available with a goal ratio of 1:10
- EMR: Epic (preferred, not required)
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- First-to-float; floating includes all areas as helping hands, PCU for full patient load, MS for full assignment, and some ER holds/boarding
- No on-call or standby requirement
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license, must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU experience required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for this position
- Must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- More of a telemetry/cardiac-focused unit with PCU-level overflow care
- Unit orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week), with independent practice beginning that Sunday
- Any scrub color is acceptable
- RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- A manager interview is required as part of the selection process
