Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level II Trauma Emergency Department position requiring night shifts and active ND or compact RN licensure with ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications.

Details

  • Level II Trauma acute care hospital Emergency Department
  • 21-bed ED including a fast track/vertical flow area, one dedicated psych room, and separate triage area
  • Patient population spans pediatrics through geriatrics with common diagnoses including trauma, stroke, STEMI, CAH transfers, SOB, and abdominal pain
  • Average daily census of 50–60 patients, predominantly ESI Level 3
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4 based on acuity; up to 1:5 when boarding patients are grouped together
  • Common drips include vasopressors, heparin, and antiarrhythmics; ICU holds managed as 1:1 assignments
  • ED tech support available per shift for tasks such as EKGs, vitals, and blood glucose monitoring
  • RNs are responsible for drawing labs off IV starts; phlebotomy is available as a resource
  • RNs read and interpret telemetry strips at the main nurses station; no dedicated monitor techs
  • RT is in-house and responds as needed but is not physically stationed in the ED
  • Epic EMR used in this position
  • 12-hour night shifts with varied start times (7p–7a and other evening/overnight options)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • Float requirement is rare and limited to task assistance or as a helping hand

Requirements

  • Active ND or compact NLC RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Emergency department experience required
  • Level II Trauma experience preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Travelers may be utilized in the vertical flow/fast track area; triage competencies may be obtained after demonstrating experience and time on the unit
  • Charge nurse on each shift manages department throughput and serves as a resource but does not carry a patient assignment
  • 1–2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; those who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
  • Any color scrubs are acceptable
