Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level II Trauma Emergency Department position requiring active ND or Compact RN licensure and TNCC certification.
Details
- Level II Trauma Emergency Department in an acute care hospital setting
- 21-bed ED including a fast track/vertical flow area
- Treats 50–60 patients per day, primarily ESI Level 3, with some Level 4 and rarely Level 1 acuity
- Patient population spans pediatrics to geriatrics; common diagnoses include trauma, stroke, STEMI, CAH transfers, SOB, and abdominal pain
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3–4 based on acuity, up to 1:5 for stable boarding patients grouped together; ICU holds are 1:1
- Common drips include vasopressors, heparin, antiarrhythmics, and critical care drips for ICU holds
- Charting system is Epic
- RNs are responsible for drawing labs off IV starts; phlebotomy is available as a resource
- RNs must read and interpret cardiac monitor strips at the nurses' station; no dedicated tele techs
- 12-hour shifts with varied start times: 7a–7p, 9a–9p, 11a–11p, 2p–2a, and 7p–7a
- Day shift position; every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Floating is rare and typically involves tasking or serving as a helping hand
Requirements
- Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Level II Trauma ED experience strongly preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
- A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
- Two professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Travelers may be utilized in the vertical flow/fast track area; triage competencies may be available to travelers with prior triage experience after an acclimation period
- Travelers are permitted to take trauma cases
- Security is staffed in-house 24/7 with an office located within the ED
- ED is staffed by attending physicians only (no mid-levels), with 24/7 physician coverage
- Charge nurse is dedicated to managing department throughput and does not carry a patient assignment
- ED techs (1–2 per shift) assist with EKGs, vitals, blood glucose, and patient care
- RT is in-house and responds as needed; RT manages ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and breathing treatments
- Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
- Any color scrubs are acceptable
- First-time travelers will be considered
- RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
