Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum) position at a Level II trauma-designated acute care hospital, requiring a minimum of 3 years of LDRP experience and active AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification.

- Acute care hospital setting with a dedicated LDRP unit
- Unit includes 7 L&D beds, 12 postpartum beds, 8 surgical beds, 1 dedicated C-section OR, 2 GYN surgical ORs, and a 3-bay triage area
- Patient population includes obstetric, antepartum, L&D, postpartum, triage, and surgical/medical patients; accepts patients 23+ weeks gestation
- Common diagnoses include gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, and postpartum vaginal and C-section deliveries; occasional higher-risk patients accepted
- Surgical cases include hysterectomy, bladder repairs, and mastectomies
- AWHONN staffing ratios followed: L&D 1:1–2, postpartum 1:2–3 couplets, surgical/medical 1:3–4
- Approximately 643 births annually
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Pitocin, Mag, and occasional insulin drips
- Common medications include Procardia, Labetalol push, TXA, Methergine, Hemabate, Cytotec, and Cervidil
- RNs are expected to scrub; scrubbing experience is preferred
- RNs expected to read telemetry during Phase 1 recovery for C-sections (not a hard stop requirement)
- EFM system: GE/Corometrics (multiple series)
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- Schedule rotates days and nights, made 6 weeks in advance with consideration for sleep schedules; block scheduling available
- Every third weekend required
- Holiday coverage on an as-needed basis
- First to float; float destinations may include Peds MS, NICU (feeder-growers), Med/Surg, PCU, ICU, ED, or Psych (as 1:1 sitter or helping hands)
- No on-call or standby requirement; optional overtime available
Requirements
- Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 3 years of LDRP experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (Advanced preferred); pending certifications not accepted
- Ability to titrate IV drips (Pitocin, Mag, insulin) required
- Scrubbing experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience (used in this position)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years; both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome and will be considered, though candidates are expected to hit the ground running
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Candidates who are currently or were recently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN directly by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm will be considered
- Unit orientation consists of 2 x 12-hour shifts
- A charge nurse is present on every shift and takes an assignment; travelers are not assigned charge duties
- Support staff includes 1 OB scrub tech (M–F days), a unit clerk, and occasional nurse techs
- OB and Neonatology are on call 24/7; NNP is on-site overnight; anesthesia is in-house 24/7
- Surgical scrubs are provided by the facility
- RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
- Unit is known for high patient satisfaction
