Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position covering a 60-mile zone around Colorado Springs, CO, requiring 2 years of MS-Tele experience and extensive floating across multiple acute care facilities.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with no single home base facility — travelers float across all facilities within Zone 1 (Colorado Springs, CO area)
  • Float pool covers multiple MS-Tele units spanning specialties including Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Observation
  • Patient population is adult and geriatric, with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 based on acuity
  • May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
  • Charting is done in Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
  • Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance and may follow a set weekly facility assignment or a Just-In-Time (JIT) format with facility assignment 1–2 hours before shift start
  • Low-census standby situations are rare
  • RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips
  • Respiratory therapy equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP is used on the units
  • Nurse aides are available on the units

Requirements

  • Active CO state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MS-Tele) RN experience required
  • BSN is not required
  • Prior neuro experience is preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • A valid driver's license is required for consideration
  • Candidate's permanent address must be at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center (the float zone's city center) to be eligible

  • This is a true float pool role with no home base facility — travelers are assigned to different facilities within Zone 1 each schedule and must be able to commute to any facility within the 60-mile zone
  • Zone 1 facilities are located across a 60-mile radius centered around Colorado Springs, CO, with the furthest facilities approximately 46 miles from the city center
  • It is the traveler's responsibility to secure housing that enables commuting to any facility within the full 60-mile zone
  • Designated charge nurses are assigned to each unit and typically do not carry a patient assignment, though night shift charges may take a small assignment when needed
  • All time-off requests must be submitted before the assignment begins
  • Holiday rotation coverage may be required
  • Travelers must be physically present in-state for the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
