Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CTICU/CVICU) travel position requiring Level I trauma experience, strong IV skills, and proficiency with high-acuity cardiac surgery patients.
Details
- Acute care setting in a Level I Trauma facility
- 24-bed Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU/CVICU)
- High-acuity patient population including cardiac surgery recovery, IABP, CRRT, lung transplant, thoracic surgery, ECMO, esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumectomy, TAVR, and Empella patients
- Patient ratios are 1:1–2, with a high number of 1:1 assignments
- High volume of bedside procedures including bronchoscopies, Swan-Ganz catheter placements, and epidurals
- Travelers with IABP and CABG experience may be assigned those patients
- Phillips telemetry system in use
- EMR: Cerner (experience preferred)
- 12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p
- 3–4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
- Holidays worked based on unit rotation
- Float required to other ICUs and telemetry units (4:1 ratio on tele); travelers float before permanent staff; floating to a secondary campus may also be required
- Intensivist on-site during days, on-call at night
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
- 2 PCTs on days and nights during high census
- Charge nurse present with no patient assignment
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; ICU experience required, CVICU experience preferred
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Strong IV skills required — no IV team available
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation (2 attempts allowed; failure results in a 6-month DNU status for CommonSpirit AZ and Sacramento region facilities)
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as determined by driver's license address
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Day 1 orientation includes a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses have been released during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field
- Orientation also includes educational sessions on lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Floor-specific orientation is 2 days on the unit
- Navy scrubs required
- Natural hair color and no facial piercings required; male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Travel nurses must have their own personal vehicle
- First-time travelers are not mentioned as eligible — significant ICU and CVICU experience is expected
