Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU / Neuro Stepdown position in Oregon, requiring a minimum of 2 years of PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience and an active OR RN license.
Details
- Short-term acute care hospital setting — Magnet-designated, academic teaching facility, and Level I Trauma Center
- New Neuro Stepdown unit opening mid-assignment
- Patient population includes ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, status epilepticus, and post-craniotomy/neurosurgery cases
- Specialized procedures include post-thrombolytic care, vasoactive medication management, and care of ventilated patients
- Equipment used includes Hamilton C1 ventilators, external ventricular devices, and lumbar drains
- Charting system is Epic (experience preferred but not required)
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Variable weekend requirements
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3
- Floating is required within the Acute Care division, including to a nearby affiliate hospital — refusal to float may result in contract cancellation
- No on-call responsibilities
- Local candidates are accepted
Requirements
- Active Oregon (OR) RN license required; pending license accepted if application has been submitted and received by the licensing board to qualify for the 90-day license exemption
- Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
- 6 hours of stroke continuing education (CEs) required
- Minimum 2 years of PCU, DOU, IMC, or Stepdown experience required
- Ability to titrate vasoactive drips and provide care for ventilated patients required
- Epic experience preferred
- Two manager or supervisor references from within the last 24 months required — Charge RN references are not acceptable
- COVID vaccination documentation required — no exemptions accepted
- Former employees of the facility must have been separated for at least 6 months before returning as a traveler
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Solid-color scrubs required (no prints); scrubs are provided
- Parking is available for a daily fee; public transportation is strongly encouraged
- RTO is limited to a maximum of 5 days for a 13-week contract or 7 days for an 18-week contract
- If more than 5 RTO days are approved, the additional time must be added to the end of the contract to maintain a full 13-week assignment
- All time-off requests must be submitted at the time of consideration
- Former employees or previous travelers at this facility must have a reference completed by their OHSU supervisor, which will be reviewed by the new reporting manager
