Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring night shift availability, telemetry strip interpretation skills, and a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg Telemetry unit on the 3rd floor of a hospital setting
• 49-bed unit with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio, supported by nurse aides (1:10–15 ratio)
• Patient population includes CHF, COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, telemetry, post-cath, and total joint replacement cases
• RNs are required to interpret telemetry strips and sign off at least once per shift; monitor techs are also present on the unit
• Diltiazem/Cardizem drips are administered at a set rate; drip titration is not required
• Respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and breathing treatments
• EMR: Cerner (experience strongly recommended due to limited orientation)
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Every other weekend (EOW) requirement; 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
• Holiday coverage required — candidates should expect to work a combination of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Thanksgiving Day
• First to float; may float to the East Campus and possibly PCU if qualified
• No on-call or standby requirement
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Experience reading and interpreting basic telemetry strips required
• Experience with CVA and TIA patients preferred
• Total joint replacement experience preferred
• Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended
• Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam with a score of at least 80% prior to offer confirmation (two attempts allowed)
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
• Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (those employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Valid driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Unit orientation consists of 1 shift on the unit; Cerner experience is strongly recommended given the limited orientation time
• Schedules are made 4 weeks out using self-scheduling, subject to manager balancing
• A sterile technique skills test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation
• Failing both attempts of either the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or the sterile technique test will result in a 6-month DNU status with CommonSpirit facilities in Arizona and Sacramento, CA
