Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PICU position at a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, requiring at least 2 years of experience and PALS certification for 12-hour night shifts.

- Work in a 16-bed PICU at a newly opened Level II Pediatric Trauma Center facility
- Unit serves a diverse pediatric population including respiratory patients (high flow, CPAP, BiPAP, trachs), oncology/chemo, RSV, asthma, COVID, MIS-C, new onset diabetes with insulin drips, chronically ill, cardiovascular (congenital heart defects), and surgical patients (appys, g-tubes, ENT, fresh trachs, bowel obstructions, VP shunts, cardiac, neuro)
- Trauma cases include falls and MVAs; no solid organ transplant, major burns, or stem cell transplant patients
- ECMO patients are managed by an ECMO specialist; travelers will not be solely responsible for the ECMO machine
- CRRT is performed using the Prismax machine; due to low CRRT volume, cases are typically assigned to core staff but travelers with prior experience may take them after training
- Unit operates with interchangeable overflow between Med/Surg and PICU, encompassing neuro, cardiac, respiratory, surgical, and medical patients
- EMR: Epic (preferred)
- 12-hour night shifts, 19:00–07:00
- 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating to Med/Surg or ED as Helping Hands or Constant Observer may be required
Requirements
- Active WA RN license or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
- Proficiency in aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, suctioning, G-tube/J-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, drip management, and Foley insertion and management
- CRRT experience with Prismax preferred
- CICU experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Two professional references from a supervisor or above (Charge Nurse, Manager, Director, etc.) required prior to start; one reference is sufficient for initial consideration
Additional Information
- Provide complex critical care nursing to a broad pediatric patient population spanning respiratory, medical, surgical, trauma, and cardiovascular cases
- Scrub color is open; no hooded shirts or long sleeves — sleeves must be able to be pulled above the elbow
