Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2 years of recent specialty experience, with night shifts and regular floating responsibilities.
Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient ratio of 1:5
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15
- 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule period, in a combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed, including the Emergency Department for inpatient holding
- No on-call requirement
- Block scheduling is not available
- Relevant work settings include MS/Tele, Cardiac Telemetry, ER Holding, Neuro Stepdown, and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
- Patient population includes post-cardiac, post-MI, pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, CVA, renal failure, and total joint replacement cases
- Skills required include dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), use of rapid response teams, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, heparin protocols, cardiac drip titration, PCA, procedural sedation, tracheostomy management, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, peripheral nerve block catheters, surgical drains, and wound care/wound vac
Requirements
- Active MO or Compact RN license currently in hand; both Kansas and Missouri licenses (or compact equivalent) must be in hand prior to consideration, as floating between facilities may be required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/specialty experience required
- Must have at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year
- Prior charge RN and teaching hospital experience preferred
- 2 professional references required: at least one must be supervisor level or above, and the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year
- SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Charge RN assignments may be required as needed per unit
- Holiday shift coverage required as needed
- RTO is limited to a maximum of 7 days for the contract period
- Travel partners are not accepted for this position
- Candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of the facility are considered local and are not eligible for this position
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Completion of online compliance modules (approximately 10–15 hours) is required prior to the start of the assignment
- Drug screening is required; a diluted or positive result that cannot be cleared may result in assignment cancellation and a 6-month waiting period before reapplying
