Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week travel contract in West Virginia, requiring a minimum of 2 years of critical care experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

• Acute care hospital ICU setting with 18 beds
• Critically ill patient population including Sepsis, Acute MI, renal failure, post-vascular procedures, stroke/TIA/seizures, ARDS, and CV procedures
• Patient ratio is 1:2, with occasional 1:3 when caring for overflow or PCU downgrades
• Age population served includes adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
• RNs are required to titrate critical drips including vasopressors (Levophed), Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin, and Insulin
• Telemetry monitoring is present on the unit; RNs read their own strips (no monitor tech)
• Equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, mechanical ventilation via trach and ET tube, IV pumps, sequential compression devices, and specialty beds
• EMR: Epic
• Night shift, three 12-hour shifts per week (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM); block scheduling available, especially for nights
• Rotating every other weekend (Fri–Sat or Sat–Mon)
• Rotational holiday coverage with core staff
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Floating required to Stepdown; if not needed there, may float to Med-Surg/Telemetry or to cover Stepdown/ICU patients boarded in the ED; travelers float in rotation, not always first

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA)
• Minimum 2 years of critical care (ICU) experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• CRRT and IABP experience required; Impella experience preferred
• Experience with invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• BSN not required
• For consideration: 2 supervisor/peer references (including 1 supervisor reference; if perm employment within last 12 months, one reference must be from that facility), skills checklist completed within the past year, copies of certifications, and a valid driver's license

Additional Information

• Preferred certifications include PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
• Charge nurse is primarily without patients; house supervisor available 24/7; hospitalist in-house 24/7; intensivist not always present
• Respiratory therapy is available as needed but not permanently stationed in the ICU
• Orientation includes general hospital orientation, a full day of nursing orientation, full-day Epic/computer training, and two 12-hour preceptored orientation shifts
• Scrub color: Navy for RNs; solid color only, no embroidery or patterns; solid-color fleece zip-ups permitted in grey, black, navy, or royal blue; closed-toe shoes required (no Crocs)
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel assignment
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying; cumulative time at WVU Medicine locations cannot exceed one year before a 2-year break is required
• No travel duos accepted for this position
• Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
• EKG testing is required for this ICU position (pass/fail)
