Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Critical Care Float position requiring ICU, PCU, MS, and ED float capability with a minimum of 18 months of ICU experience and active IN or Compact RN licensure.

- Short-term acute care hospital setting
- Critical Care Float role covering ICU, PCU, MS, and ED based on departmental needs
- Patient population includes ARDS, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, DKA, AKI, UTI, acute shock, and related critical care diagnoses
- Specialized procedures include ventilator management, Arctic Sun, IABP (balloon pump), Cath Lab, TR bands, sheath pulls, EEG monitoring, cardioversion, and stress tests
- RNs must be able to manage higher patient ratios when floating to PCU or MS
- Rotating day and night shifts (3x12 hours); days run 7:00–19:00, nights run 19:00–7:00
- Charting via Cerner (experience required)
- Floating required across ICU, PCU, MS, and ED, as well as to affiliate hospitals nearby
- Scrub color: red top, black bottoms
- Free parking on-site
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license must be in hand at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 18 months to 2 years of ICU experience required; strong candidates with PCU float experience preferred
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA and RQI formats accepted)
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited university required
- Ability to manage higher patient ratios across ICU, PCU, and MS settings
- Strong ICU background with demonstrated experience floating to PCU and/or MS
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
- Local candidates are not accepted for this ICU position
- Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have been away for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
- Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- RTO of 5 days or fewer may be auto-approved
- Travelers will be asked to float within the hospital and to nearby affiliate facilities as a resource traveler
- As of 11/30/2024, IU Health does not allow IN RN travelers in ICU positions (this position is subject to that restriction — confirm eligibility with your recruiter)
