Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of ED experience and night shift availability.
Details
- Work in a 43-bed Emergency Department with an additional 20 boarding beds at a 874-licensed-bed Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- Travelers are most often placed as Med/Tele RNs to cover ED holds
- Patient population includes trauma (GSW, stabbings, MVA, falls), stroke, heart failure, chest pain, COPD, cardiac cath pre-op, ETOH/CIWA, IVDA, mental health, respiratory illnesses, GI disorders, liver failure, and AKI/CKD
- RN-to-patient ratio: 1:5 max (acuity dependent); CNA ratio: 1:7
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements for travelers
- Floating required across Region 1 facilities, including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, freestanding EDs within the region, Lake Norman, and the Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, LCH)
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI
- TNCC preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ED RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Trauma experience, stroke experience, and cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
- Proficiency in conscious sedation, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, critical care drips, and blood administration required
- Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Nurses are responsible for reading and responding to telemetry monitors; no dedicated monitoring tech is available
- Department support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), IV/VAT team, resource nurse (as available), respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible
- Scrubs: Navy required
- Free parking available on-site
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
